I received my BA from Ohio University. I was lucky enough to dive into my studio art classes with some of the best artists around (OK, I may be a little biased but really; best artists, PERIOD). The faculty at OU thrived on making their mini artists question, critique, lose their mind, & question their art some more. Until they felt that they may truly die from lack of conceptual ideas, much less the manifestation of these ‘ideas’. I graduated in 2011, with a handful of paintings that were good enough to throw on a website. I’ve spent my time since college focusing less on conceptual ideas & more on the materials in hand. While discovering what my materials can do for me, I find myself never being able to fight the urge to add more color & texture. I’ve given up on fighting this urge and now embrace it. I continue to find new ways to manipulate the paint & manifest my ideas. I encourage you to take notice to the variation in color, value, texture & movement in my art. These paintings are simply abstractions of everyday life, feelings & concerns. They’re inspired by my surroundings & are focused far more on the materials than the message.

A little beach R&R...

Hi All!!!

I am back from my temporary hiatus... the hiatus was for a great reason, this I assure you. I just got back from spending about 2 weeks with my family in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. All my nieces and nephews were there, along with my sisters and brother-in-laws. It was a fantastic time full of sand, boogey-boarding, arts and crafts, and Oreos! I will post a few more of my favorites from the arts and craft sessions with the little ones... here are a couple photos for now...
Create your own postcards (watercolors on index cards)... [Photo by Christy Hahn, Edits by moi].
Toilet paper roll monsters... I began this with an idea to make an octopus, but I thought monsters would be more fun! [Photo and edits done by moi].
I have spent a few hours editing some of my favorites from this year's vacation, I hope to make postcards for each family of some of these photos, so we can remember our trip this year. Another great idea would be to transfer these photos to canvases for them-A nicer touch to a home, and the canvases have a bit more substance than just photos in a frame.

Last, but not least... a little father-in-law/son-in-law bonding... or something like that...

Hope you enjoyed these photos... Trust me it was very hard for me to pick my favorites, but I think these pretty much summed up our vacation.

Make sure to keep checking back regularly, as I touch on everything creative in my life. I am focusing on doing a lot of projects with my nieces,  (4 and 8), to get a better idea of which crafts  work best, and to help figure out all kinks in the projects before I use them on a larger group. The toilet paper roll monsters went VERY well, and better yet, went we fabulously for both age groups.

Pace&Love for now,
Brittany
