I received my BA from Ohio University. I was lucky enough to dive into my studio art classes with some of the best artists around (OK, I may be a little biased but really; best artists, PERIOD). The faculty at OU thrived on making their mini artists question, critique, lose their mind, & question their art some more. Until they felt that they may truly die from lack of conceptual ideas, much less the manifestation of these ‘ideas’. I graduated in 2011, with a handful of paintings that were good enough to throw on a website. I’ve spent my time since college focusing less on conceptual ideas & more on the materials in hand. While discovering what my materials can do for me, I find myself never being able to fight the urge to add more color & texture. I’ve given up on fighting this urge and now embrace it. I continue to find new ways to manipulate the paint & manifest my ideas. I encourage you to take notice to the variation in color, value, texture & movement in my art. These paintings are simply abstractions of everyday life, feelings & concerns. They’re inspired by my surroundings & are focused far more on the materials than the message.

DIY Christmas Gifts

HELLO!

I don't know about you, but I am in a christmas FRENZY... doing tons of last minute DIY christmas gifts. Here are a couple gifts that I have put together that have turned out wonderfully. Hopefully I will post more photos in the next couple of days of the rest of my christmas DIY gifts as I finish them! :) All of these gifts were between $6-$10. Sorry for the low quality of photos, they're from my not-so-smart phone!

The beads and silver filled wire I bought at Beads n' Things in Athens, Ohio. They are a wonderful source for socially responsible gifts, and they have uber amounts of jewelry supplies and beads! The best hidden secret of Ohio.
Bird's nest charm... I chose the amount of eggs (beads) based upon the amount of children or grandchildren the giftee has :)

These candle holders are going with a diffuser set as a gift. Candle Holders: Walmart @ $0. 97/each
Close up of candle holders with ribbon design taped to them
FINISHED! The diffuser to the left I made on a pottery wheel, filled it with skewers I cut to size, and I am providing a BIG bottle of diffuser oil. This cost a total of $10! :)
They look so lovely in the dark! I am so excited to see these in my sisters living room! :)
Not sure if this is for anyone, or I might keep it for myself.. but this is simply water color on 9x12 canvases. You can do ALOT with a little paint. canvas, and creativity! :)

Hope you guys have enjoyed this post, and if I don't post before Christmas, I hope you all have a wonderful holiday and spend your time wisely with your closest friends and family.

Peace&Love.

Radar Hill, Athens, Ohio

Hi Friends,

I found a flash drive I thought I had lost, and I was SO SO very happy. Why do you ask?? Because they had photos that my dear friend Krista and I had taken during our Hike to Radar Hill in Athens, Ohio. Athens is a very special place for me and these photos really exhibit just a touch of the beauty Athens, Ohio has to offer... that can be said for the entire region of Southeastern Ohio. Here are a few of the photos I took, I hope you enjoy these as much as I do.

Peace&Love.

Projects Projects Projects

Hi Friends!

I have been so distracted from what my goal of this blog would be... so I am going to slowly load photos of upcoming projects. I have to be careful though, beucase many of these new projects are actually CHRISTMAS PRESENTS! Yep, it's that time of year... when I begin brainstorming the most useful and thoughtful DIY ideas for friends and family. I am a little late, but HEY... I have completed my TO-DO list for the projects! :) So, without further distraction... I am getting on the BALL, and making my gifts... starting TODAY
I have created an online portfolio/website you can check out if interested in purchasing any pieces or perusing my portfolio!

Happy Sunday Folks!!! Season Finale of BOARDWALK EMPIRE tonight... so sad another season is over.
Peace&love!

Kilnin' it.

Hey all...

Mugs, mugs, and more mugs. :)

These badboys are heading to the kiln as we speak!
I'm re-working some bowls... making stack-able measuring cups, then it's time for bottles. I will have photos a week from today. I am stocking UP on my ceramic goods, because I am not sure the next time I'll have a wheel and clay at my disposal! Have a good week friends!

Peace&Love,
Brittany

Holy Mugs.

Just a peak at what I've been working on in the ceramics studio. It's a shame I've discovered this truly amazing art form in my last quarter at OU. Oh well, looks like I'll be investing some money in pottery workshops in the future!

Some more mugs from yesterday... missing their handles though!

Glaze tests... VERY EXCITED to glaze my mugs!
I'll be spending most of the weekend Job-hunting, portfolio making, and at the ceramics studio! Have a good weekend folks!

Newbie.

Bonjour!

I am new to blogging, but I wanted a place for my friends  (old and new) and family to keep in touch with the things that are important to me. I want to share with everyone the inspirations I find daily, my creations I continue to work on, and my rants about life. Please stay posted as I continue this journey and share it with you, and please have patience as I try and figure out the best way to blog and share these things with you.

Peace & Love always,
Brittany Ann
